Description
The Cash Clip Gold joins the structure into BA steel has a coating in 18 kt rose gold: 2.30 grams of gold on a body that must flex.
BA steel
A money clip works under bending stress: it opens and closes every time it is used, and it has to return exactly to where it was. Pure gold wouldn’t do that—at that thickness it would deform after just a few openings and stay open. Steel has the necessary elastic memory, and that is why it forms the structure.
Gold goes where it is seen and not where it bends: it is a division of roles dictated by the mechanics of the piece, not by aesthetics.

The Artistry of Risivi & Co
A gold plating on a piece that flexes is an adhesion problem: if the bond between the two metals is not uniform, the gold peels off right at the point where the money clip opens. That is where the job is won or lost.
