1. The Cut: Definition of Brilliance.

Often confused with the shape of the diamond (round, oval, emerald), the Cut is actually the most critical and complex factor. It refers to the quality of facet proportions, symmetry and polish. It is the only one of the 4Cs that is directly influenced by the human hand.

The common approach is to consider the cut as one of four variables, often expendable to gain an extra carat.

For us, the Cut is king. An inferior cut will dull even the purest, most colorless stone. In contrast, an excellent cut can make a diamond appear larger, whiter, and can even mask small inclusions.

• The Scale of Excellence: The GIA classification goes from Excellent a Poor. In our atelier, selection starts from a single premise: we consider only diamonds with cut Excellent Or, in rare cases, Very Good. It is not a fad, but a guarantee. An excellent cut ensures that light entering the stone is reflected in an interplay of brilliance (white light), fire (flashes of color) and sparkle (the movement of light).

• A Smart Investment: Investing in a superior cut is the wisest choice. It guarantees you maximum visual impact for your budget. It is like having a sports car with a powerful engine but low-quality tires: it will never express its true potential. A diamond with a superb cut expresses the maximum potential of the material.

2. The Color (Color): The Art of Context.

The Color refers to the absence of color in a white diamond. This is why the GIA scale ranges from the letter D (totally colorless, the rarest and most expensive) to Z (yellow or light brown).

The common approach is the chase after the letter D, believing that it is the only option for a fine jewel.

Our eye perceives the color of a diamond in relation to its surroundings.

Choosing the color grade without considering the metal of the jewelry is the most common mistake. Our advice is based on a principle of chromatic harmony.

• For Yellow or Rose Gold frames: Choosing a D, E or F diamond is a waste of potential. Yellow gold will inevitably reflect its heat back into the stone, making it appear less white. For these settings, we recommend diamonds in the grades G, H, or even I. They will appear beautifully white in contrast to the metal, allowing you to invest the savings in a better cut or higher carat.

• For White Gold or Platinum frames: Here “colorless” diamonds (D-F) find their highest expression. However, “nearly colorless” diamonds (Near Colorless, grades G-H) are an excellent choice and almost indistinguishable from the higher grades once mounted. The difference is perceptible only to an expert with the stones disassembled and side by side.
